University Profile
Founded in 1897 to offer vocational courses, the University of Paisley began offering degree studies in the early 1900s and matured to University status in 1992. At present, there are 1,300 faculty guiding more than 11,500 students enrolled in various course programmes under various subject areas.
The University offers a wide range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Most of the course programmes are based on a lecture programme plus practical and laboratory sessions, tutorials, seminars, and fieldwork where appropriate, and include work placement opportunities. All the courses are modular, and each subject is usually completed within one of the two semesters that make up the academic year.
The University is organised into seven academic schools, supported with various departments and units that include Business School; Computing; Education; Engineering & Science; Media, Language & Music; Health, Nursing & Midwifery; and Social Sciences.
The University of Paisley is a multi-campus institution operating across three campus sites in the west and southwest of Scotland. Each of the three campuses boasts a well-stocked library plus computer laboratories with free e-mail and Web access. And there are campus bookshops in Paisley and Ayr, providing books on a full range of subjects.
In 2001, the University of Paisley became the first and only new Scottish university to receive a 5 rating in the Research Assessment Exercise, for their work in Finance and Accounting.
