The Institute of Education is a graduate college of the University of London. It was founded in 1902 to deliver high-quality training for teachers. Every year, about 1,000 graduates attend Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) courses in the Institute of Education.
The Institute of Education now offers courses leading to higher degrees in all areas of education and related aspects of the social sciences and professional practice. The institute offers many courses on a part-time, full-time and, distance-learning education basis and are structured to suit the busy lives of people. It also offers short courses and host conferences responsive to the professional and personal requirements of education practitioners.

Being the largest university centre of educational research in the United Kingdom, it also holds the credit of being one of the largest centres of social science research in the United Kingdom. Today, it can boast of being a leading performer in Education in the Research Assessment Exercise in the United Kingdom over the past twenty years since its establishment.
The Institute of Education has a Doctoral School, which brings together all the research students at the Institute. The Institute provides a range of resources to support high-quality and successful research for M. Phil., Ph. D., EdD, DEdPsy, MRes and research-focused MSc degrees.
