The Courtauld Institute of Art was founded in 1932. It is the major center in Britain for the study of the history and conservation of art. It is based in Somerset House at Strand WC2R 0RN, in the heart of London and the Institute and its gallery are close to a number of cultural institutions and unsurpassed research resources and learning opportunities.
The Courtauld Institute of Art is one of the world’s leading institutes for teaching and research in the history of art and conservation. It was awarded a 5* grade in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. It has world famous collections of paintings, prints and drawings in its Gallery and also manages the Hermitage Rooms.
The Courtauld Institute of Art has been internationally recognized as one of the leading centers for the research and study of art history and conservation. It currently has a faculty of twenty-five art historians and six conservators. About one third of its students are undergraduates, and a significant proportion proceeds with postgraduate work.
All alumni of the Courtauld Institute of Art automatically become members of the Courtauld Association of Former Students.
The Courtauld Institute of Art offers one undergraduate degree programme, BA (Hons) History of Art, and it focuses on equipping students with knowledge and. historical understanding of Western Art. It also produces graduates with top skills and a critical curiosity. Study Abroad students are taught in the same small groups as other Courtauld students.
