Founded in 1921 with nine students, the University of Leicester is one of the older universities in the United Kingdom. All the teaching buildings of the University of Leicester are within a few minutes walk of each other. The University is in the centre of England close to the M1 and M69 motorways. Leicester railway station is close by, and London is just 75 minutes by train.
The University of Leicester offers a wide range of courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Students are enrolled in the various course programmes as full-time, part-time, and distance-learning courses. The University delivers high-quality undergraduate, postgraduate and professional education and create research that has impact internationally. The discovery of DNA Genetic Fingerprinting is the most famous research achievement of the University, but the research activities stretch across the Arts, science, medicine, law, education, biological sciences, and social sciences.
Teaching in 18 subject areas in the University of Leicester have been graded as Excellent by the Quality Assurance Agency, including 14 successive scores. At present, the University has over 19,000 students drawn from 150 countries from all over the world.
