Swansea Metropolitan University got its name in 1992, after achieving the status of an independent Higher Education Corporation, but its roots date to 150 years before. The Institute is strongly rooted in the community it serves, and it upholds close links with industry, commerce and public services.
The Institute is a Member of the University of Wales and an official centre for BTEC Higher National and NVQ programmes. As a result, its standards are warily synchronized and frequently scrutinized by external, as well as internal, specialists.
Swansea Institute Has Three Faculties. Faculty of Applied Design and Engineering, Faculty of Art and Design and Faculty of Humanities.
The essence of all of its courses is the application of knowledge to real-life situations, in the laboratory, workshop or classroom.
The Students' Union plays a key role in fostering the social, cultural, and recreational activities of students
To maintain the most up-to-date teaching, the staff takes part in specially designed training and upgrading programmes.
All the support facilities, including libraries and information technology services, are of a high quality and are frequently reassessed and upgraded.
Swansea is a vibrant and striking city by the sea having a population of 230,000. It received its city status in 1969 from Queen Elizabeth II. Swansea has an elegant shopping and entertainment centre, including a world-famous indoor market dating back to the Middle Ages. Resorts, parks, wildlife centres, caves, and castles surround Swansea.
