The University of Southampton was founded on 15 October 1862. At present, there are almost 20,000 students registered in various course programmes in various subject areas. Its several campuses in Southampton and Winchester also include 5,000 faculty members. It has more than 20 Academic Schools, which are organised into three Faculties.

The University of Winchester offers foundation level programs, Bachelor Honours degrees, postgraduate Master's degrees as well as PGCE. It also has a study centre named as the Chute House in Basingstoke. Students are offered services such as counselling, study skills, careers advice and health care.
