College Profile

Located in Flintshire, the Welsh College of Horticulture has grown tremendously in the past fifty years and is now a well-equipped facility with a sprawling 91 hectare campus. As the name suggests, the college offers a wide range of horticulture courses as well as a number of other land-based industry courses to suit the needs of a wide range of students. Adult learners, school leavers and those looking to imbibe some work-based training will find the kind of programs they are looking for.

The college offers higher education, further education, part time, short courses and community courses for a wide range of subjects. Students can choose from fields such as animal and equine care, floristry, horticulture, ICT and machinery. Some people may assume that there is no demand for these kinds of skills but the truth is that there is a demand which currently exceeds the number of skilled workers available. In fact, the Welsh College of Horticulture also offers work-based training programs which give students the opportunity to learn valuable practical skills and earn at the same time. Local employers also benefit as they get employees with the kind of training they require.

The Welsh College of Horticulture is home to Northop Nurseries and Northop Garden Centre. The college also has a completely organic farm that covers 10 hectares. The farm has gained recognition under the Farming Connect program as a Development Farm.
