St Martin's College was started in the year 1964 in Lancaster, as a teachers training institute. Over the years, it took over Lakeland College of Nursing and Charolette Mason College. Now in the short span of 42 years, St Martins has grown to accommodate 11,500 students in three campuses of Lancaster, Carlisle, and Ambleside. Apart from these three campuses, the college has study centres in Tower Hamlets, Barrow, and Whitehaven.
The college is divided into three mail schools, the Faculty of Health and Social care, Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Faculty of Education. There are numerous courses offered under each Faculty. The students on completion of the course are awarded a degree from the University of Lancaster.
The college is open to International students and has numerous facilities to make the transition easier for them. The college also arranges for exchange programmes giving a wider exposure to students and a chance to travel abroad. The college offers reasonable accommodation to its students in each of the three campuses. There are many support services available for the students like childcare, chaplaincy, counseling, learning support etc.
Some of the resources available for the students are a library with numerous books and subscriptions, Computer centres with 24-hour internet access etc. These facilities are there in all the three campuses.
The college has active sports teams participating in various events all over the country. There are societies and clubs in the campus catering to every interest be it arts, music or theatre, giving students overall learning development.
