College Profile
Queen Elizabeth College was built in 1970 in place of an old Grammar School dating back to 16th century. The college has ‘outstanding’ report from Ofsted in 2004 and the pass percentage here is nearly 100%.
Subjects Offered
The Advanced Level subjects have both vocational as well as academic subjects. The college also offers Music and other Performing Arts as subjects in A level. The subjects taught in Queen Elizabeth are also very job oriented. There are subjects like Applied Business for students who are keen in learning how a business runs. For a career in today’s IT world, there are topics like Applied ICT and as GCSE course on Award in Digital Application. For fine arts students there is A/AS in fine arts, graphics and textiles; besides a BTEC foundation course for post A Level students.
For Science students there is Chemistry, Biology, Math, Geology, and Economics. There are traditional humanities subjects like History, Geography, English literature, Sociology that are taught in both A/As levels as well as GCSE level. Modern subjects like Film Studies, Leisure Studies, Music, Critical Thinking, Citizenship, Dance, Music Technology to name a few, are also taught.
Continuing Education
Any adult can also join the college in the Access to Higher Education courses as well as BTEC Foundation course. All are part time courses of about 30 weeks. Their classes are held in late afternoon or evening. This will help those who want to work and study at the same time.
