The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts was established in Liverpool in 1996. It not only offers courses in various aspects of arts and entertainment, but also gives public performances for two seasons each year. The institute has a wide range of programs for all kinds of students, from children to serious performing artists.
The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree in subjects such as acting, performing arts, sound technology, performance design, community drama and theatre. Diploma courses are available for performing arts, popular music and sound technology while part time courses, aimed at 4-19 year olds, are available for singing, dancing and acting.
The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts also caters to the international community and has over 680 students that come to study from other countries. Each international student is assigned a Learning Guidance Tutor to help them with any problems they may have.
The institute also provides its students with a number of resources, which include library catalogues, electronic and reference materials, DVDs and journals. Specialized material is available for subjects such as acting, dance, management and sound technology. Study sessions assist students with referencing, planning or writing skills. A Careers Collection resource is also offered to help students decide about their future plans after graduation. This includes information on job hunting as well as options for further studies and funding agencies.
