Joseph Priestley College is situated in South Leeds and was established in 1955. It has three sites in Beeston, Rothwell and Morley, and offers further education courses across all the sites. There are even classes held in certain community centres across the region for adult courses. The college offers more than fourteen subject areas which range from entry level to degree level. It also has a Business Services Department providing training to employees of many companies associated with the college.
Courses offered at Joseph Priestly College are many and varied. There are full-time as well as part-time courses for school leavers and adults alike. The full-time courses include Hairdressing, Accounting, Public Services and Holistic Therapy. These can be studied up to Level 3 which is equivalent to AS and A2 Levels. Classes for AS/A2 levels and GCSE are held in the afternoon and evenings. Subjects include English Literature, Science, Law, Sociology and History. Other courses include BTEC Diplomas, NVQ’s and Certificates. Some of the subjects that are offered are Health and Social Care, Aromatherapy, Horticulture, Business and Sport.
A lot of vocational crafts are taught at Joseph Priestley College. Students can learn Abstract Painting, Interior Design, International Cookery and Floral Display. Students can avail of the many services provided by the college such as child care, career advice, personal counselling, financial support and support for dyslexia. Free workshops are conducted to deal with problems in Maths and English.
