John Ruskin College is located on Selsdon Park Road, South Croydon. It is a further education college and was originally established as the John Ruskin Boys Central School in 1920. After many relocations, the upper forms of the school eventually moved to the Selsdon campus and became the John Ruskin College. The college specialises in education of 16 to 19 year olds and has several general as well as vocational courses. Adult education is also offered at the college.
Courses offered at John Ruskin College include A-Levels, GCSE and BTEC programmes. At the A-levels, some of the subjects offered are Accounting, Business Studies, Electronics, Graphic Design and Religious Studies. In the BTEC courses there are three levels of certification, the Introductory, First and National Diploma. Subjects in this include Business, Information Technology, Performing Arts, Sport and Retail. GCSE is offered in Maths and English. Students can gain Key Skills Qualifications in three key skills, namely Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology.
Several adult education courses are also offered at John Ruskin College. Some of the more popular subjects offered are Housekeeping, Dementia Care, Effective Customer Care, Conflict Management, and Health and Social Care. The college has a number of facilities for students. It has a fitness gym, science laboratories, an IT suite, learning centre, sports hall and café. The student services centre provides career guidance, financial support, first aid and counselling.
