John Leggott College was established in 1968 and is one of the oldest sixth form colleges in the country. It is located in Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire. The college offers full-time courses for 16 to 19 years old. It has around 1900 students enrolled in its full-time courses. Most of these students complete the two year Advanced Level course and can move on to universities for their degrees. There are also adult education courses conducted in the evenings and on weekends. John Leggott College has been ranked as one of the top ten colleges in UK.
Several full-time courses are offered at the college covering various subjects. Some subjects taught full-time are Film Studies, Business Studies, Further Mathematics, Performing Arts, History and English Literature. Many part-time courses are also offered for adults such as Sport and Leisure, Communication Skills, Accounting and Payroll, Skills for life, Arts, Media and Craft Skills. The college holds certain evening classes off the campus, in four schools in the area.
Many services are available for students at John Leggott College. There is a personal tutor for the students, a college chaplain to give personal advice and counselling, career advice and guidance, access to internet and support for students with disabilities. Many enrichment courses and activities are available such as dance, creative writing, chess club, keyboarding skills, team sports and medicine society. There are three sports academies in the college, the golf, hockey and rugby academies.
