The Isle of Wight College started off as a college providing only construction and engineering when it was established in 1951. It is now a General Further Education college offering various courses for its students. The college offers A-Level courses for 16 to 19 year olds, GCSE, Foundation Courses, vocational programmes and several adult learning courses. There is an open learning system provided in the college whereby students can opt to study at their convenience on campus or at home. A personal tutor is assigned to such students to keep track of their progress.
Many subjects are taught at the Isle of Wight College. Some of them are in the A-Level like Psychology and English Literature. There are also courses like the BTEC National Diploma in Media, National Certificate in Health and Social Care, BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts and NVQ Professional Cookery. The Adult Education Centre provides many courses for adult learners such as modern languages, theology, crafts and practical skills, business and computing.
Facilities at the Isle of Wight College include a learning resource centre, a gym, hair and beauty salons, the Play Station nursery, and a refectory and restaurant. The college provides services to the students by way of personal counselling, financial assistance, medical care and a chaplain for personal and spiritual advice. There is no discrimination of any kind at the college, be it race, religion, disability or gender. Students from all backgrounds are welcome here.
