The Glasgow School of Art is one of the most internationally recognized educational institutions, offering advanced courses in fine arts, design, and architecture. It is a small and highly specialized international community of artists, designers, and architects who develop new ideas through research and teaching, which is mostly studio-based and professionally very much in demand.

The Glasgow School of Art was founded in 1845 and has evolved over the years with a philosophy of imparting the best education in its three fields of study. It is one of the very few remaining independent schools offering primarily undergraduate degree programs in ten specialist fine arts and design departments. Postgraduate degree programs focus on interdisciplinary study work and also offer masterís of fine art degrees. It is expected that more and more postgraduate degree programs will be introduced to increase the student strength to almost 25% by 2010. Glasgow School of Art is also expanding its research studies by aligning itself with specialist research centres.
Glasgow School of Art is synonymous with Charles Rennie Mackintosh, one of the most renowned artists, designers and architects of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Over the years, many distinguished artists, designers and architects have been influenced by the work of Mackintosh to make a mark in the world of culture, creativity and design.
