Established 100 years ago, Camberwell College of Arts is a part of the University of Arts, London. Camberwell was awarded grade five for its research activities by the Research Assessment Exercise carried out by the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Camberwell holds the reputation of being the country’s leading Art and Design College. The college has two campuses one at Peckham Road, and the other at Wilson Road, both at stones throw distance.
The students of Camberwell are closely associated with other colleges that come under the University of Arts London. This enables them to have access to its wide range of resources and facilities that include archives and collections. The research network of the University of the Arts London (RNUL) brings students from other five colleges under it through seminars, workshops, symposiums, etc.
Research degrees at Camberwell College of Arts focus on historical and theoretical analysis, creative practice and experimental work. Research thesis may be a practical investigation of a question or traditional text based work. Some of the research projects at the college fall in areas such as transnational art, the interface of new technologies and creative practice, identity and nation, and the conservation of Byzantine books and manuscripts.
Students can undertake their study on a full time or part-time basis. The college also offers part-time courses in interior design and decoration, drawing and painting, jewellery and 3D design, ceramics, design for television, mosaic, textiles, printmaking, and graphics, illustration video, photography and digital design, history of art and conservation.
