Founded in Blackpool in 1971, Blackpool Sixth Form College offers a range of courses in A Levels and GCSE. The college also offers a number of evening courses and currently caters to 1500 full time students. The college has forty full time courses for a wide range of subjects, including electronics, film studies, music technology, psychology and business studies.
In addition to their main courses, Blackpool Sixth Form College offers students a number of enrichment courses in the fields of music, the performing arts, recreational activities and outdoor pursuits. Students can also aim for a number of awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The college emphasizes that they are not simply about studying and offer a number of extra curricular activities for students as well, like the basketball academy.
The college also offers its students a wide range of support services and facilities. Additional learning support is available for students who either feel they need assistance in a particular area or have special learning needs. In certain cases, a transition plan may be applied to help the student adjust to college life ahead of time. This may include visiting the college during the summer months in order to become familiar with the facilities and the staff.
