Barony College is a specialist college that offers animal care and land based training and education. It was established in 1974 and is located in Dumfries which is in the south of Scotland. There are several courses offered at Barony College in subject areas such as Horticulture, Aquaculture, Veterinary Nursing, Fisheries Management and Equine. These courses can be studied on a full-time basis or through short courses and flexible learning. The full-time courses are all college based and include some site visits and field trips. The subjects offered for full-time study are Agriculture, Animal Care, Engineering, Equine and Forestry, to name a few.
The college offers work based training schemes in a variety of subjects. These include Animal Care, Horticulture and Equine. These training schemes lead to Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ). Students can opt for work based as well as college based programmes to get a deeper understanding of the subject. Flexible learning is available in the subject areas of Aquaculture, Fisheries and Aquatics, and Veterinary Nursing. Students can learn at home with study materials provided by the college and they have a tutor whom they can communicate with through telephone or email.
Barony College offers many of its facilities for hire to people who need them. They have conference rooms for trainings and seminars, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, accommodation in cottages and hostels, and catering for various locations. Outdoor events can also be organised at the Barony Centre grounds.
