Alton College is a sixth form college that offers both business service training and adult education courses. Based in Hampshire, the college was one of two sixth form colleges that were ranked 'Outstanding: Grade 1' by Ofsted in 2006. In 2002, the college was granted the status of a Beacon College. In 2004, both Alton College in conjunction with Teloar College was awarded the 2004 Beacon MENCAP and RNIB Award for their work with students with disabilities and special needs.
As a sixth form college, Alton offers both academic and vocational training on a full time basis for students in the age range of 16 to 19 years. The college offers all students a personal tutor whom they meet with regularly for individual sessions and group sessions. Career advisors and personal advisors are also on hand to help students deal with any personal problems they may have or concerns about their future. Students are also given personal progress targets along with an action plan which they set with the help of the tutor.
Alton College also offers a wide range of adult education programs for subjects such as psychology, counseling, engineering and information technology. A learner support system is also available which can help students understand what career options are available to them as well as how to overcome hurdles in their progress. Business servicesí training is also offered at Alton College in conjunction with local companies and employers.
